Electric Fencing and Perimeter Security, Installed Properly

A perimeter that looks like security and a perimeter that actually provides it are not always the same thing. We install electric fencing and galvanised spikes across the Cape Peninsula. Properly mounted, properly tensioned, built to deter rather than just to tick a box.

The Reality

Most perimeter security fails before it is tested

A poorly installed electric fence is not just ineffective. It is a false sense of security. Loose strands lose tension and sag. Brackets mounted into soft or deteriorating walls pull out under stress. Energisers sized incorrectly for the perimeter length deliver inadequate voltage by the time the current reaches the far end.

In Cape Town, the issue is compounded by the environment. Salt air corrodes fittings faster than inland conditions. The Cape Doctor puts sustained lateral stress on every bracket and every post, every season.

Security that does not hold up to the conditions is not security. It is decoration.

We assess every perimeter before we quote. Theo looks at the wall or fence line, the exposure, and the existing condition. What goes up is sized and mounted for the specific site, not copied from the last job.

Incorrect Energiser Sizing

An energiser needs to match the perimeter length. Too small and the far end of the fence carries inadequate voltage. This is a common and invisible installation error.

Poor Mounting and Bracket Failure

Brackets mounted into deteriorating walls or set at incorrect angles lose tension over time. What looks solid on installation day shifts within months.

Salt Air and Wind Corrosion

Cape conditions attack fittings, tensioners, and connections faster than most owners expect. An installation that is not specified for coastal or high-wind exposure will need attention within two or three years.

What We Do

Security Solutions Across the Cape Peninsula

From a new electric fence installation to a full perimeter review and repair, we assess the site first and build for it specifically.

Electric Fence Installation

New perimeter electric fencing, sized and mounted for your specific property. We assess the wall or fence line, the run length, and the exposure before specifying the energiser and fittings.

Galvanised Spike Installation

Anti-climb spike systems mounted on walls, gates, and boundary structures. Galvanised for the Cape environment and properly secured so they hold position under the conditions they are there to face.

Security Upgrades and Repairs

If your existing electric fence has lost tension, developed faults, or had brackets fail, we assess the full perimeter and repair or replace what is needed. Sometimes a full reinstall is the more cost-effective answer. We will tell you honestly which one applies.

Existing Wall and Vibracrete Integration

Electric fencing and spikes can be installed onto existing vibracrete walls and brick boundary walls. We assess the wall condition as part of the quote, because mounting security onto a compromised wall does not make sense.

Palisade fencing is also available on request. Speak to Theo during your site assessment.

“Security is only as good as the installation behind it. A fence that looks right but was not built right is worse than nothing. It gives you confidence you have not earned.”

Common Questions

Security Questions, Answered

Yes. Electric fencing is commonly mounted onto vibracrete and brick boundary walls. Theo will assess the wall condition during the site visit. The wall needs to be in good structural shape for the mounting to be secure.

They serve different functions and are often used together. Electric fencing is an active deterrent: it delivers a shock on contact. Galvanised spikes are a passive anti-climb deterrent: they make scaling a wall significantly more difficult and painful. Many homeowners install both for layered perimeter security.

This depends on the energiser model and output. Sizing an energiser correctly to the perimeter length is one of the most important parts of an electric fence installation. Theo will specify the right unit for your property during the assessment.

Electric fencing should be checked periodically for vegetation contact, tension loss, and corrosion on fittings, particularly in the Cape salt air environment. If your fence is triggering frequently or showing reduced output, it is worth having it assessed.

Yes. Galvanised spikes can be mounted on gates, walls, and other boundary structures. Theo will advise on the most effective configuration for each section of your perimeter.

Yes. We assess and repair existing electric fencing regardless of who installed it. In some cases a repair is straightforward. In others, a full reinstall is the more honest recommendation. Theo will tell you which one applies and why.
